Real Mom Review: Wine & Design Art Buzz Kids Class

Wine and Design is a "paint and sip" experience where you can get together with friends, family or for a date night with your significant other and take part in a two-hour, stroke-by-stroke painting or do-it-yourself (DIY) class led by a local artist while socializing and enjoying a glass of wine. Wine and Design also offers special Art Buzz Kids events, perfect for inspiring kids to get creative while having fun. Art Buzz Kids classes are great for birthday parties, too!

We sent one of our MOM Squad ambassadors and her daughter to experience an Art Buzz Kids class at their local Wine and Design location in Alexandria, Virginia. They received a free class in exchange for providing an honest review of their experience.

Wine and Design Art Buzz Kids Painting Class is a "sip and paint" experience, but for children! My 8-year old was very excited to paint a unicorn and the experience didn’t disappoint.

The young lady leading the painting activity was very friendly and had everything set up and ready to go. We were given our aprons and welcomed to settle in to our space.

The young lady was a great instructor; she was clear and patient and just plain happy to be doing what she was doing leading a room full of eager little ones (who had already gotten into the paint).

The tables accommodated up to four painters, but were a little narrow and felt cramped. It wasn’t much space to hold easels, plates of paint, cups of water, brushes, beverages, and food. Both myself and my little one had to stand up on many occasions to paint and avoid bumping into each other or any of these many items occupying our space. As you can imagine, there was bumping into paint and each other despite our best efforts, and this applied to most participating.

The mood was very relaxed, festive, and definitely catered to kids and families. They played well known Disney movie songs in the background that were mostly mellow. The mood throughout the event was delightful. The instructor would check in with everyone repeatedly and offer any assistance. For us, that was an endless request for paper towels!

We wrapped up by putting our personal touches on our respective paintings. We used the blow dryers to expedite and ensure as best as possible dry canvases before walking out with them. 

This is a very flexible activity that accommodates any level of skill and creativity. It was easy going and fun. My daughter loved the activity itself, painting, but was also was very excited over the ability to customize and personalize her painting as she pleased.

Time Recommended to Enjoy Activity

The session is two hours and more than enough time to finish the painting, dry it, and clean up.

Recommended Age Range

My daughter is 8-years old and totally owned this activity! It really can accommodate those who are quite young, perhaps 3-years old, with a little hands on help from a grown-up. Ages 4 and up can have free reign over their imagination and art!

Tips for Families

Do not wear your Sunday finest to these painting events! There is the likelihood that paint will somehow make it onto your clothes despite your best efforts… drips, kids bumping into others, helping your little one, etc... lends itself to it.
