Real Mom Review: Frederick Keys Baseball Game

Things to Do Real Mom Reviews

The Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Maryland is home to the Minor League team, the Frederick Keys. This family-friendly venue is the perfect place to cheer on the home team, ride a Merry-go-round, eat a dugout dog, and for parents, enjoy local craft beer. The team mascot, Frank Key, and the team itself, are named after Francis Scott Key, a native of Frederick and most recognized for penning our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.

We recently sent one of our MOM Squad ambassadors and her family to a Frederick Keys baseball game. She received free admission in exchange for providing an honest review of her experience.

Frederick Keys Stadium

My family and I had the privilege to go see the Frederick Keys play the Carolina Mudcats. For those that don't know, the Frederick Keys are a Class A Advanced Affiliate to the Baltimore Orioles. They are considered a Minor League baseball team.

My family and I arrived at the stadium right as the gates were opening at 6 p.m. We walked right in and started checking out the activities available to those who arrive early.

Prize Wheel at Frederick Keys Stadium

Right inside the concourse, they had a prize wheel for $1 that my son loved to spin. He played a few times and won a sticker, a baseball-themed rubber duck, as well as a Keys baseball hat. He was excited because he was hoping to win the baseball hat.

Also, in that area, you'll find a couple of fan shops that offer t-shirts and other Keys items that are available for purchase by their devoted fans.

There are also a few pop-up locations on site with picture opportunities, so my husband and son enjoyed taking a few fun photos.

Dugout Dogs at Frederick Keys Stadium

There are several food choices that include fan favorites like Nathan's hot dogs, nachos, peanuts, sunflower seeds, cotton candy, snow cones, and even Dippin Dots.

Adult-friendly dining options include Philly cheesesteak subs, crab cake sandwiches, beer brats, and even some local craft brewery beers.

Blow up slide at Frederick Keys Stadium

For the kids, there is a children's area that offers a slide, a bounce house, merry-go-round, and some games for an extra fee.

We had terrific seats in the second row behind the Keys' dugout, so we got to enjoy the game and see the players up close.

Frederick Keys Stadium

I would highly recommend experiencing a Frederick Keys baseball game in the home stadium's beautiful setting.

The location is very family-friendly. It is easily accessible and has a very laid-back feel. I like that you are able to get "up close and personal" with the players and the baseball experience. You get closer to the action than you would at a major league game.

Getting There and Getting In

The stadium is super easy to locate, you can use GPS, and there is an exit right off of I-70. They have parking right at the field, and it is free. The lot is located right next to the front entrance, so it is very easy to access.

We walked right in as soon as the gates opened. For the Wednesday evening game we attended, the gates opened at 6 p.m., and the game itself started at 7 p.m.

Time Recommended to Enjoy Experience

If you come when the gates open, you will have plenty of time to experience everything the stadium has to offer.

Recommended Age Range

My son is 8-years old. I would recommend this for all ages as I saw all ages at the game we attended, from babies to grandparents.

Tips for Families

There are lots of choices for food at and around the stadium. We chose to eat in downtown Frederick. It has an area with shops and food. There is also a great little restaurant/ice cream shop in Jefferson, Maryland called The Little Red Barn. It is a wonderful location to stop for food or a sweet treat.

There are activities for children at the stadium, but they cost extra, so you will need to bring some money with you.

Would Your Family Visit Again?

Yes! Our family loves baseball. We love the ease and location of this stadium, as well as the pricing per ticket. It is a great choice for families!
