Real Mom Review: Totsville Indoor Playground in Glen Burnie, MD

Real Mom Reviews Things to Do DC/MD/VA

Located in Glen Burnie, Maryland, Totsville Indoor Playground is a brand new awesome play space for families with little ones, ages 0-10. The most unique feature of this new indoor playground is its huge sandbox filled with silica-free sand that is safe and easy to wipe off. And since Totsville is completely indoors (and open every day of the week!), your little ones can play in the sand year-round, no matter the weather!

We sent two of our MOM Squad ambassadors and their families to the Totsville Indoor Playground. They received free admission in exchange for providing an honest review of their experience.

Lindsay: When we first entered, my two boys headed straight for the ball pit. This area also included a slide and the ‘banana tree’ swing and was sectioned off for kids 44’’ and below. We played in that section for a long time and kept coming back as my younger son loved the ball pit and my older son was obsessed with the swing.

The next section is the climb and slide zone with some obstacles. The most unique feature was two air blasters that you can shoot at targets. Those were really fun, and it was cool that they had one on the second level too.

In the back of the facility is their giant sandbox. The boys would probably come back just so they could play in the sand again. With shovels, buckets, trucks and lots of space, this is a great place for the littles to calm their bodies a bit. The sand was super fine and was easy to brush off once they were done playing. The rest of our time was spent making new friends, running, jumping, and laughing.

Amy: It was a very "calm" atmosphere, and felt safe at all times. Several staff members, dressed in bright orange shirts, were present in all play areas and were very friendly to the kids. Even when there were about 50 or so people inside (adults and children), it never really became a problem.

There are several play areas, including a ball pit with a small slide, swings, wall playthings, building blocks, all on a soft play mat surface. Behind the toddler area is a larger climbing area with two sets of slides, two ball launchers, and several maze-like structures to help keep kids fit and healthy.

At the back, a rather large sandbox had maybe ten kids in it at the time and they were never on top of one another. There are brushes to remove sand from clothing after exiting the sandbox. Much of the play area outside of the toddler area and the sandbox were carpeted/hard surface floor. There were mats at the bottoms of all the slides.

There's also a lower level where there are two separate party rooms where birthday parties, baby showers, and events can be hosted. Currently, the party room price includes two pizzas, drinks, an hour in the party room and an hour of play for up to 15 kids. There's an additional charge per kid for more. Also, they allow outside party food beyond the provided pizzas and drinks.

They have bathrooms complete with toilets, urinals, changing tables, diaper pails, and step stools for the sinks. At the front hostess stand are an assortment of drinks, food, and candy for sale. There is a microwave, K-cup coffee maker accessible in the linoleum-tiled portion of the center. There were a few tables here to set your belongings, in addition to cubbies and locker rentals upon entry.

Getting There and Getting In

Lindsay: Depending on what direction you are coming from, you may have to weave around a little strip mall, but keep going right and you will see it at the end of the row next to the Allstate. There is a decent sized free parking lot right in front. You need to sign a paper waiver when you arrive but they have lots of copies available and there was not a line to enter.

Amy: It was easy to get there--we used smart device navigational app Waze to find it. There were plenty of free parking spots available in the lot. We were only behind one other family and we arrived about 5 minutes prior to opening on a Saturday morning.

Time Recommended to Enjoy Experience

Lindsay: I think most kids would probably spend one to two hours at the playground.

Amy: Two hours is good--plenty of time to exhaust the children. :)

Recommended Age Range

Lindsay: My children are four and almost two. I think these were perfect ages for this indoor space. It seemed to cater to younger kids, so I would say crawlers to five or six-year-olds would have the most fun.

Amy: My children are one and three. I would recommend Totsville for ages 1-10.

Tips for Families

Lindsay: Though the location has snacks, if you plan to make it a full day outing you would need to leave for lunch. You can purchase drinks (coffee, tea, soft drinks, juice) and snacks like granola bars, veggie straws, etc. Outside food is not allowed and they do not serve lunch type food like sandwiches or pizza. There are lots of fast food restaurants, including a Subway in the same shopping center and a McDonald’s across the street.

Families should be aware that everyone, including adults, need to wear socks at all times except for inside the sandbox. Adults are allowed in the areas, so they can climb around with the littles, but there is a weight limit of 250 lbs.

The sandbox is in the back, but it is visible from the rest of the play space so if you don’t want your kids going there, it will be hard to hide it from them.

Amy: Bring socks for everyone. Pack light so you don't leave valuables in the cubbies. Recommend water bottles for all and comfy, play clothing.

They have juices, coffees, candies, general snack food, even mac-n-cheese for use in the on-site microwave. They ask that you bring no outside food. There's a delicious crepes place right around the corner from Totsville Indoor Playground.

Would Your Family Visit Again?

Lindsay: We will definitely be back. If we didn’t live so far away we would probably come weekly during the winter, but because of the distance we will have to limit our number of visits.

Totsville Indoor Playground

Amy: Yes! The main reason I'll be back: I have a 1-year-old who's recently walking, as well as a 3-year-old, there was never a time that I didn't know where my kids were in the place. It was the perfect sized indoor play space. Easy to see into all the areas and keep track of your curious kids and keep them out of harm's way. In addition, the staff was extremely attentive. I've already bought three of the 2-for-1 Totsville deals through CertifiKid. I can't wait to get back there! The kids LOVED it--that's what really matters.
