Real Mom Review: Jumbo's Pumpkin Patch
By Nya Seaward, CertifiKID SubscriberPosted Oct 10, 2018
We sent one of our MOM Squad ambassadors and their family to experience Jumbo's Pumpkin Patch fall festivities in Middleton, MD. She received free admission in exchange for providing an honest review of her experience.
Getting There and Getting In:
It took about 20 minutes to get to Jumbo's Pumpkin Patch from Hagerstown, MD. After exiting off the highway, there were all back roads, but GPS will lead you straight there with no issues. The parking area is clearly marked in the fields on the farm. It is free and gets pretty packed during business hours. There are a few spots marked for the handicapped. There is a booth for check-in to purchase tickets for rides and the corn maze. It has two windows and people moved quickly.
Recommended Age Range:
I took my sons who are ages 11 and 10. This is a good activity for children ages 3 - 10.
Time Recommended to Enjoy Experience:
We were there for about 2 1/2 hours. Two-three hours is probably a good amount of time to spend.
Special Features for Families:
There were a few wagons available for pulling around heavy pumpkins or carting something like Mums to your car. Most activities were perfect sized for children, such as mini wagon rides, pony rides and playground equipment.
Food and Drinks:
There is a food stand, which has made-to-order items. I enjoyed a funnel cake. While I thought my son's soft pretzel with cheese was pricey ($5), most items were appropriately priced. They offered meal combos and a reusable pumpkin cup with the purchase of cider.
Features & Activities:
There was an animal area with a calf, a few pigs and goats to see up close and pet. The pony ride area was close by with a stand for face painting and little trinkets for sale. Behind that was a craft attic that featured many handmade goods for sale, such as candles. There was a barn nearby for parties, which sold ice cream. The food shack was down from there and had two children's playground areas behind it. It was quite muddy on our visit and too messy to play on.
Back up the hill, you could catch the mini wagon ride or walk up a little further to catch the hayride that takes you out to the pumpkin patch.
The corn maze was also just a short hayride away right next to the pumpkin patch. Although not very long, we loved the hayride. It is outfitted with benches, which made the ride more comfortable than just bales of hay.
The corn maze was huge. Although it was quite muddy on our visit, we did pretty well and navigated through pretty quickly.
When coming or going, you can't miss the general store at the barn where you weigh and pay for your pumpkins. There were all sorts of things inside for sale such as decorations, candies, fall foliage and sodas.
Nearby Attractions:
We drove through the downtown area of Middleton, which had an ice cream shop and looked like a nice place to stop. We passed a large park with beautiful fields for sports and a dog park as well.
Tips for Families:
Boots are always a good idea when visiting a farm!
Would Your Family Visit Again?
We would like to visit again and take our daughter and her friends, who may enjoy the labyrinth corn maze. We have also had a lot of rain, and although the weather was perfect, the rain had definitely caused a lot of muddy areas.
